Pocket Puppy Shih Tzus is registered and licensed as a breeder in the State of Iowa.  All puppies are AKC registered with limited registration, which means we do not provide breeding rights for our puppies.  All puppies are raised to be placed in loving, nurturing homes and will not be sold to puppy mills or pet stores. No exceptions.

I am a small breeder raising quality puppies for quality families. Puppies are raised entirely in our home. In fact, all five of our dogs are kept in our home at all times. I currently have 3 females and 2 males. My passion is the entire process from the beginning until well past the time the puppies leave my home.  My goal is to find a home that will enjoy this breed as much as my family enjoys our dogs.  Our dogs are an extension of our family—they live with us, sleep with us, and travel with us.  This makes life a little more chaotic at times but it is life as we know it.

The puppies are whelped in my home office and raised in my office where they will receive constant supervision at all times.  Puppies are introduced to children and other dogs at appropriate stages to ensure proper socialization.  Our puppies are introduced to grooming habits, such as bathing and nail clipping, so they are familiar with the process when reaching their new homes.

All of our dogs are trained to ring a bell when they want to go outside.  Our puppies are introduced to this potty training system early and have a good understanding of the bell system when they go to their new homes.  In addition, we crate train our dogs and encourage new owners to do the same.  The puppies are introduced to kennels when the mother no longer sleeps with the puppies at night. This means puppies know and feel comfortable in a kennel upon reaching their new homes. Furthermore, we encourage new owners to bring us a kennel and/or small towel or blanket so the puppy can become accustomed to her new home and leave our home with a familiar scent so she feels most secure.

All new puppy owners are provided literature on the Shih Tzu breed, as well as a book on puppy training. All puppies have their dew class removed, receive their first round of shots and vaccinations, and are examined twice by our veterinarian of 15 years before going to their new homes. 

Our dogs range in size from 9 pounds to 14 pounds, with the average being between 10-12 pounds. We can estimate sizes but we cannot guarantee or promise any given size. We also have a variety of colors between our dogs ranging from solid chocolate, solid black, solid brindle to black and white, liver and white, gold and white, and even some silver and white. Again, we cannot promise any given color and we cannot promise the coloring will stay the same as the dog matures. We are more concerned with the health of the puppies and will, instead, guarantee a healthy puppy. HOME
